Christianity and Self Awareness

The reason I am writing this post is to share what I have learned as a Christian  and shine light on Christianity as a whole.  While reading the Armor of God and watching Youtube videos on different religions I was inspired to share my experience with Christianity.

Being a Christian inspires internal honesty
Internal honesty comes from looking at the root of past events that affect us daily and sin. God inspires us to question ourselves on why we act the way that we do. Are we still living in the past? Why do we do something that we know has a negative outcome? In order to change, we must have those moments to look internally. Through God’s grace, we have the opportunity to learn. Through repentance, we grow. God challenges us to take off the rose-tinted glasses and deal with the truth.

Christianity promotes peace
God is a God of Love and Peace. We, as Christians, are striving towards peace. Peace is the result of Christians following the guidelines and understanding why the guidelines are in place. God’s wisdom and knowing the truth brings peace.

God doesn’t want you to have guilt or shame, that’s why Jesus died on the cross
It is hard to forgive ourselves or to ask for forgiveness after we’ve done something wrong. Jesus died on the cross so that we won’t be separated from God because of guilt. This does not mean that sinning is okay. This is an opportunity to learn and grow from our mistakes. The biggest part is forgiving ourselves for what we have done. The Bible encourages us to learn and move on, not to dwell on the past.

No More Guilt or Shame

Christianity promotes healing and moving forward in life
Hurt and pain can turn into bitterness. In my Christian experience, I had to deal with the feelings and thoughts that I carried for many years. Those thoughts and feelings dictated my life. I wasn’t in control. I had to be honest with myself and God about why I was hurting. Hurt can lead to sin and sin can lead to hurting others. Talking to God was my therapy, it allowed me to let go of the baggage. Subconsciously living in the past is self-sabotage, it kept me from being the best that I can be.

Living Authentically.
There isn’t a need to be perfect. Accept yourself and improve on what you can.

It isn’t about us (The Bigger Picture)
It is nice to know that there something beyond me, beyond this life…something greater.

Nothing is new under the sun
In the Western World, we think linear meanwhile, in other places they adopt a parallel way of thinking. Instead of using linear thinking, look at history to help make a better decision for the future. Someone else might have gone through a similar situation and we can use that experience to help formulate the next step.

Ecclesiastes 1:6

Everything is Temporary
When we see the world and life as temporary our problems become much smaller.

Everything is meaningless
I’ll use money as an example. We are bound to a piece of paper….not even that…a number that has no real value. Money, itself, isn’t worth anything. It is a tool.  We are tied to this tool that we revolve our lives around it. We spend money to go to college to make more money. We get up for money, we live for money and we continue to do a lot of our daily activities because of a number that does not have actual value. Money is just a tool and nothing more.
Ecclesiastes Chapter 1 NIV

There is much more to Christianity than being a model citizen or doing the right thing. It is about the mindset and the internal changes you have to do to get the right thing.

I hope that this post helped you gain some insight on Christianity. Let me know your thoughts below!

A Post to come

Hi everyone, I am not going to do a traditional post today instead I am gonna let you in on what is going on in my life right now.

  1. I am working on a couple of blog posts but because of life, it won’t be posted today.

I don’t like having my post already typed the day of posting and that is something that I am trying to slowly get over.  I have been struggling with ideas and writing but I have been inspired by the next update.

2. I have been reading The Armour of God Bible Study

This book is by the same Pastor who made War Room. I highly recommend it. It is a very eye-opening read. Going through the Bible study has inspired some topics that I would like to write on this blog, it is very insightful. Pastor Shirer takes us through Ephesians 6 and all of the pieces of armor listed.  I will definitely do a blog post on the Bible Study as well when I finish.

3.Freewriting

I have been freewriting some stories.  I decided to write the Chronicles of Phoenix like a free write because I had been changing a lot of stuff in the story to get it to my liking. I have also been working on a different story. This story was one that I had put on the back burner but I was drawn to the character so much that I didn’t want to keep it on the backburner any longer. I know that I need to finish my projects that I had started…and I will but I felt like I really needed to get this idea out of my head. Freewriting for me is exploring the ideas within my head and seeing where I can go with it. I enjoy it very much and honestly I really need to do it much more. It is surprising because I like freewriting stories more than anything.

4.Attempting to get through Healing Your Past and Releasing your Future

That book is a heavy read. I am learning a lot from reading the book but it isn’t something that you read on a consistent basis. You take it with chunks, pray, finish the book and then read it again. It is another insightful book, highly recommend it and I am surprised that it isn’t more talked about.

5. Reading The Bible and getting my Spiritual Well-being together

I am starting really slow with reading the Bible. Bible study is helping me become consistent as well as being conscious. I feel great when I eat bananas, read the Bible, Pray, and post. Legit. It is a good day when I do what is essential for me. I have been going chapter by chapter and re-reading chapters until I understand what is going on. The key part is understanding what you are reading and asking God to keep you focused while you read.

That is pretty much it and I enjoyed sharing my update with you. Let me know what is going on in your life or if you are going through the same things. I like hearing comments from Y’all….it keeps me going!

The Idea

Ideas are everywhere. The imagination is an endless source of inspiration. It is just hard giving birth to the idea.

It is a constant struggle for clarity on what the idea is. We tend to make the simplest ideas complex and what we perceive as complex is actually simple. We have to free ourselves from pressure in order to get to the nuts and bolts of an idea. This is why play/fun is very important to the creative process. So I have some questions why on earth do we put unnecessary pressure on ourselves? I am talking about perfection or wanting to make something grander than it needs to be. Pressure and standards we set for ourselves ultimately limit us.

Check In With Yourself

You need to check in with yourself. It is vital for your mental health and well-being. Day in and Day Out you have other people’s voices in your head that your voice is drowned out. Take time for yourself. Ask yourself:

What is true?

Are you letting my feelings make decisions for me?

Are you working on a project you truly desire to work on?

Are you entertaining negative energy?

What is the bigger picture?

Are you living for just the temporary moment and not the bigger picture?

Are you taking your goals piece by piece or are you stressing yourself out by trying to do everything at once?

Let me know if you take time to reflect and what are some tips you have for wellbeing!

My reason to Travel

Travel is more than just going to visit a place. It is a chance to gain clarity. Our World is fabricated so much that we need to go to another one to discover who we are. This journey to gain more clarity on me and what makes me is something that I have wanted to do but never had the chance too.

I have felt the need to get away from societal and political pressures. These pressures cripple me as a young black female who is simply trying to find her way in life. I need to let go of the weight of the roles I have played throughout life and re-evaluate my positions in life.

Travel takes away the roles and obligations and helps travelers gain a new perspective. Through seeing new cultures or through self-examination, travel can change your life. Even though travel will not solve all of the answers, there will be fewer questions to ask after the experience.

Trying to set up a schedule and fighting against myself

When I was young I rebelled against schedules. Thoughts and feelings were a guide for me. If I felt right about something then it was the right thing to do and if I felt bad about something then that something was wrong. I ran into a lot of grey areas. This year I am undoing my thought process along with many other bad habits. I am on the road to healing and trying to better myself. One of the ways I want to attack this process is on my blog. I use to have a routine where I would write my posts at the beginning of the week and edit throughout the week, but I would procrastinate because of outside stressors. I would tell myself “I don’t feel like doing” whatever the task was and I don’t do it. The main goal for me with my blog is to not let my routine break because of outside stressors. I want to see where my blog goes. So that is the challenge for me and you. Don’t let outside forces inhibit success.
