Healing Your Past and Releasing Your Future

Healing is something that is near and dear to my heart. It is the space that I am in right now, it is my focus.  I have been through a lot and some of the things that I have been through inhibited me from moving forward in my life.  Living in the past has left me confused and directionless.   When I acknowledged that I needed some clarity in my life, it was time to start reading Healing Your Past and Releasing Your Future.

Have you ever felt directionless, a lack of clarity or even like you don’t know your purpose? Maybe it is time for us to start our healing journies instead of looking for a purpose.

I have had this book collecting dust or in the back of a bag somewhere and I finally decided to read it. I needed to read it.  This book for me was going to be the blueprint for healing.

While Reading Healing Your Past and Releasing Your Future

Healing is a process. It includes letting go of baggage and replacing it with positive things. Healing can mean not replaying a particular part of your past, which can happen subconsciously or consciously.

Some steps towards healing include acknowledging, letting go and moving on.  One of the parts of Healing Your Past and Releasing Your Future is the structure and steps provided. At the end of each chapter, there are steps to healing, freedom, and restoration and then charts showing healthy and unhealthy development.

Structure of Chapters

Each chapter starts off with a story/example and breaks off to explain what is suppose to happen at each stage.  After the explanation,  we get the conclusion of the story which is when the primary person goes through the healing process and is restored.

The chapter concludes with the charts as mentioned earlier and steps towards healing.

What I learned

One of the most interesting points that the book makes is that the world doesn’t run on feelings. That phrase made me think of my relationship with my emotions. I had confused my feelings with intuition.  My feelings had ruled my world and told me what to do. After reading that phrase, I decided to let that way of thinking go.

This book also helped me identify roots and triggers. I found that going through each stage of development was helpful and learning the outcomes of each step has also opened my eyes.

The Ending of Healing Your Past, Releasing Your Future

The end ties everything together.  The Fabiano’s compares physical and emotional development with spiritual development which I found to be very helpful.  The ending could have been a little bit more polished as far as ideas are concerned. Otherwise, it tied everything together.

Summary

If you are someone who is looking to get started on their healing journey I recommend this book as the first step. Healing your past and releasing your future is a blueprint for you to begin mapping out triggers or specific struggles that you need to work through.

For me:

Even though the book can be classified as a self-help book, after reading it I feel more encouraged to go to therapy. This book has helped me identify some internal struggles of mine, and it’ll make my therapy journey much more thorough.

Check In With Yourself

You need to check in with yourself. It is vital for your mental health and well-being. Day in and Day Out you have other people’s voices in your head that your voice is drowned out. Take time for yourself. Ask yourself:

What is true?

Are you letting my feelings make decisions for me?

Are you working on a project you truly desire to work on?

Are you entertaining negative energy?

What is the bigger picture?

Are you living for just the temporary moment and not the bigger picture?

Are you taking your goals piece by piece or are you stressing yourself out by trying to do everything at once?

Let me know if you take time to reflect and what are some tips you have for wellbeing!

Hiatus: Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

Hi everyone,

I know I haven’t posted anything for a while and that is because I was lying to myself.  I started comparing myself to others and pressuring myself again. I felt like I had nothing to offer to the word. I was doing good “just doing it” and kicking in the mental walls and then all of that came to a halt. I started saying I need to stop and read more or I need to have a good story or I wasn’t feeling it.

I was trying to wait until all my ducks were in a row.  That has always been my problem. I like to wait. I dismiss the things I want to do or have a passion for because of how I judge myself. I always say I’m not together or I am not fit but none of that matters. Who am I to say that I am not fit. Sometimes you have to just take that leap and learn as you go, and surprisingly, that is the way that I love to learn.

So stop waiting and just do it!

Janet Jackson’s The Velvet Rope and Inspiration to Heal

Janet Jackson’s The Velvet Rope album is one of my favorite albums. It played a big role in my childhood because my mother loves Janet Jackson and we had a copy of the HBO special plus the CD. Both the HBO special and the CD helped me with cultivating my soundscape and visual artistry. The Velvet Rope was sonically ahead of its time and the performances received many accolades but, the most important part of the album is the creative process that Janet went through. This was how Janet freed herself. Through recording this album, Janet was healing from her past.

This album was pivotal to the black community. It inspired many conversations such as domestic violence, STIs, sexual identity and being creatively free. As a young black woman who is very creative, I cherish this album. I want to heal and put myself in my art because of this album. The story behind this album teaches us to work on ourselves rather than try and be someone else, to heal and not care what people think.

Janet didn’t allow herself to be caged as a black sex icon and feeding the stereotype of black women being sexual objects. Through this album, she showed the humanity of black people and what we go through, specifically black women. Like she said, we are invited behind the velvet rope.

Janet also showed us that we didn’t need to be the best or perfect to get something accomplished. Janet is not the best singer but she utilized what she had and it was amazing.

In her HBO special she created an entire universe on stage. The costumes and set designs instantly transported you to another world. She didn’t let anyone stop her from giving birth to something unique.

Through creating something that was authentic she cemented herself as a legend. She was just being herself and standing in her truth.

After thinking in depth about her journey, I am reminded about “seek first the kingdom of God and then all things will be added unto you”.  What that means to me is, when we focus on our spiritual health and stop trying to live up to standards of the world or even to ourselves then and only then we will be free and realize the power is within us. No wonder God wants us to turn away from the world.

Let me know your thoughts on this topic and if you heard The Velvet Rope album. I also encourage you to watch the HBO special for the concert.

I may do a stream of the HBO special but you will need to check my Patreon for more details.

Not letting your emotions control you

Don’t let your emotions control you.

It is easy to let your emotions control you especially when you are depressed. You have to look at the situation as something that’s temporary. You also have to remember what you are working towards, isn’t temporary. You can’t let a short-term feeling affect your long-term success.

It’s hard to not have it together when you feel upset. Personally, I procrastinate out of emotions. I get so anxious or depressed that I take breaks.  I look at others and compare myself to them. I pressure myself and cage up my potential. I want to quit.  A lot of negative events happening at one time and I feel like I can’t handle them. But, I thought to myself, I enjoy writing. I want to share this with you because I understand what it is like to let emotions get the best of you.  I want to let you know that you shouldn’t sabotage your future for momentary satisfaction. You got this! You are special and you deserve greatness. 🙂

Hi everyone,

To begin this blog post….the purpose of this blog is to encourage others and to have a dialogue of some of the challenges with walking in the Christian Faith and just life in general. It has always been in my heart to do something like this to help those who feel like they are stuck or just need some help. Later on, I do plan on doing blog posts on each featured resource.
